Shoppers meet philanthropy

Nooria Iqbal of The Fundraisers is back with her team of volunteers at the Bargain Basement Sale in Lahore. Recently held in Lahore, this charity event is the brainchild of Iqbal and her friend Mahin Haseeb, “We started this venture in 2005 and this is our 5th event and from now on we want to make it into an annual affair,” says Iqbal.

With over 80 luxury brands donating pieces from their latest collections, the event was the perfect venue for fashion lovers to get their favourite designers at half the price. “The concept is to offer people something they enjoy and will want to spend on,” continues Iqbal, “All items have been donated by the designers.”

While designers like Sana Safinaz and Kamiar Rokni were slashed down, there was a little something for everyone. From Deena Rehman’s ear-cuffs and Maheen Husain’s clutches to My Art World’s art pieces, the event even encompassed crockery by Clayworks and a on spot massage centre.

Along with the sale there was also an auction, hosted by actor Fawad Khan. “We were very lucky that Fawad Khan donated his time to our cause and has come to auction off some of the luxury items,” says Iqbal.

The idea behind the showcase was not to donate to any one charity organisation but to whoever is doing good work and does not have the means to raise funds. This year The Fundraisers chose the Bali Memorial Trust, Pink Ribbon Foundation and Rising Stars Foundation, formerly known as Pakistan Rising.

The Bargain Basement Sale turned out to be even bigger and better this year due to the contributions made by designers across the country and the women of Lahore shopped till they dropped.
