There's Something About Suki

few months ago, Suki Waterhouse posted a pretty epic photo on her Instagram. In fact, vernacular aside, you could even say the photo was pretty epochal. In it, Waterhouse and bezzie mate Cara Delevingne pose alongside Sienna Miller, Naomi Campbell and Kate Moss at the launch of Moss's latest Topshop collection. It-girls past meet It-girls present. Right now, Suki Waterhouse is the girl every other girl kinda, sorta wants to be.
"It always feels funny when people say things like that to me," Waterhouse says. "My life is just my life. When you're living it, it's just normal."
Waterhouse is musing on the glamour or non-glamour of her life these days, as she sips tea in the luxe Greenwich Hotel in Tribeca, where she has been staying with her boyfriend, Bradley Cooper. Heard of him? The one People magazine anointed "Sexiest Man Alive" last year. The guy with the Oscar noms for American Hustle and Silver Linings Playbook. Waterhouse's date to the Met Ball in New York.
Normal, regular old Bradley. Waterhouse trades a text with him regarding dinner. They've been taking meals at a tiny place named Smith & Mills; this evening, on the occasion of their last dinner together for a while, maybe they'll try Navy, the owners' new place in Soho. It's hard to get a table there. But you suspect that Waterhouse and Cooper will get a seat.

Equally normal? The fact that Waterhouse is temporarily parting ways with her man because she's off to Atlanta to start work on the sequel to Divergent. As in the blockbuster starring Shailene Woodley; as in the most kick-ass teen action flick since The Hunger Games. Waterhouse's role, as Marlene, marks her third acting credit in a film, and promises to turn the It-ness of Suki Waterhouse into more of a global phenomenon. That is, if Love, Rosie doesn't do the job first.
"I play the girl who gets in the way," Waterhouse says of her part in the new film (out this month and based on Cecelia Ahern's bestselling novel Where Rainbows End). "You know, the girl in the movie who everyone's like, 'Oh, what is he doing with her? Go back to the other one!'"

According to Waterhouse, one of the highlights of making the film was getting to travel back in time to the turn of the millennium, and strut about in crop tops and low-slung bootcut jeans. "Very Britney," she comments, with another smoky, self-deprecating laugh, the same one that charmed the crew on the Miss Vogue shoot, as she read everyone's horoscopes aloud off a phone app. At only 22, Waterhouse was pretty much still a tot when that Britney look was in style.
But she's got a definite Nineties vibe nevertheless. For evidence, look no further than the heart-stamped platform plimsolls she recently designed for Superga. Or the beat-up, wedge-heeled combat boots she wore under her frothy Burberry gown to the Met - a riot grrrl move if ever there was one. ("I just wanted to be comfortable!" Waterhouse insists.)
As one of the stars of Burberry's latest campaign, she makes the perfect muse for Christopher Bailey's English-eccentric "Bloomsbury" gowns, but on today's shoot, her favourite item is the big camo parka - it reminds her of the ones Oasis wore in their Wonderwall days.
