L’oreal: A make-up experience gone bad

KARACHI: Make-up is a woman’s necessity — it conceals dark circles, sharpens your features and makes you go from simple to beautiful — if done correctly, that is. When the wrong base or eye shade is applied, you can go from simple to looking possibly disastrous. But in this case, it wasn’t the make-up — it was the L’oreal event that took place at the Dolmen Mall, Clifton, on Wednesday. It’s only saving grace was the fashion presentation.
Designers Shehla Chatoor, Deepak Perwani, SanaSafinaz and Sadaf Malaterre were scheduled to showcase their collections, but Perwani, due to his hectic work schedule, couldn’t make it to the event and neither could Sana Hashwani or Safinaz Muneer of SanaSafinaz. The event started an hour and a half late and when the expert panelists finally made it to the stage — to discuss the different make-up looks for Spring/Summer 2013 — no one could hear what they had to say due to the poor sound system.
Fashion show, the night’s savior
The event was all about the visuals. Make-up artist and stylist Saba Ansari, of Sab’s Salon, had a make-up corner set where she gave the models personalised looks. The looks were divided into four categories which also showcased Western wear by the four designers mentioned above.
Le Shocking look by Malattere was the first to take the stage. Models donned flashy outfits of bright pink and orange shades. Next was Shehla Chatoor’s Le Sensual look. The designer did full justice to the “sensual” part with her beige-coloured outfits and subtle make-up. “I wanted to portray a ‘nude [coloured]’ collection — light lips, light simmer on the cheeks,” says Chatoor.
Although Perwani was missing in action, his collection — Le Smoky look — represented an edgy look with dark undertones of make-up. The final look was Le Glamour look by SanaSafinaz. It was all about deep blues and blacks along with some rust.
